Papahānaumoku

Papahānaumoku, “she who gives birth to the islands,” is the revered Earth Mother and goddess of Hawaiʻi. She embodies the harmony of yin and yang, beauty and ruggedness, creation and resilience. From her, the Hawaiian Islands were born, reflecting her dual nature: magnificent mountains, forests,  and flowing waters alongside volcanic cliffs. 

As the mother of great genealogy, Papahānaumoku connects the people of Hawaiʻi to the ʻāina (land), reminding us of our deep roots and shared existence. Her story teaches us the importance of balance, unity, and honoring both strength and gentleness in ourselves and the earth.
