Palama Settlement Urban Arts An 808 Urban Arts Program
About Palama Settlement Urban Arts
The goal of the Palama Settlement Urban Arts Program is to provide quality arts education and leadership development to underserved youth in the Kalihi district. These are currently non-existent services for youth in this area.
The Urban Arts Program will focus on mural making and peer mentorship. Murals created will help beautify the Palama Settlement and neighboring areas.
Beginner students will be trained in black and white techniques, shapes, shading, contour drawing, perspective, 2-d and 3-d drawing, basic anatomy, color theory and mural making.
Advanced students go with adult mentors on professional level mural jobs, as well as become lead artists and assistant teachers for the classes. In addition to learning professional-level art techniques, advanced students are trained in educational philosophies, mentorship responsibilities, and community issues awareness.
We will begin the Urban Arts Program with an 8-week summer introductory session, then begin formal classes in September 2009.
