808 Urban is a collective of artists, volunteers, and community organizers committed to working in low-income neighborhoods at risk of gentrification. We strive to create environments that improve the quality of life for our communities and advocate for progressive social change.
We offer professional mural services as well as youth and family art programs for the community.
In our community arts workshops, participants use visual arts, music and dance to identify and express their views on issues affecting their lives, and the life and health of the communities they live in.
Through arts workshops and cultural organizing, 808 Urban promotes sustainability for low income communities through self-determination, political and cultural awareness, and leadership development. Toward this vision, we are creating community cultural arts centers at selected locations on Oahu. These centers will serve as a unifying gathering places to house on-going activities and other cultural events initiated by residents and local artists.
808 Urban activities are made possible through the support of many generous volunteers, as well as funding from the
Hawaii Peoples Fund.
